Brussels, 18/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - Following the fifth Co-operation Council between the EU and Moldova on Tuesday, the Moldovan Prime Minister, Vasile Tarlev, thanked the EU for its help in finding a solution to the conflict with Transnitria. (EUROPE reminds its readers that the Council decided to deny visas to members of the Transnitrian government who refused to negotiate with the Moldovan government). "The next stage will be setting up a joint border control" between Moldova and the Ukraine, declared Mr Tarlev. As to Russia's role in the conflict, Chris Patten said that this subject had been discussed many times and that it was still being discussed. Lastly, when asked about the Moldovan request to take part in the western Balkans association and stabilisation process, Mr Patten replied that it was impossible to extend the process set up for the Balkans to Moldova. EUROPE will come back to the conclusions.
