Brussels, 10/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - Negotiations in the Hague on the Cypriot issue continued Monday as we went to press. Secretary General of the UN, Kofi Annan, is expected, to meet the Greek Cypriot at the end of the afternoon, as well as Turkish Cypriot, Rauf Denktash for a common discussion following the numerous parallel meetings last month. Kofi Annan arranged the meeting and asked them to come with a firm response on the proposal to organise a referendum in both parts of the island on 30 March on a reunification plan the most optimistic result would be Cyprus reunited through signing an accession treaty to the EU on 16 April. But the two leaders came with requests for amendments. Denktash clearly declared at the end of last week his opposition to the adoption of this plan. If both sides agree to a referendum, they could negotiate the contents of the revisions to the text by 25 March, indicated Kofi Annan.
