Council adopts decision establishing tripartite social summit

Brussels, 06/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - EU Social Affairs and Employment Ministers adopted (without discussion and by unanimity) the decision establishing the Tripartite Social Summit, which will be held informally on the eve of the Spring Summit. Heads of State and Governments will officially institutionalise this Social Summit at their meeting on 20-21 March in Brussels. The next Tripartite Social Summit will take place on 20 March. With the few difficulties regarding procedural and legal order having been resolved, the United Kingdom and Denmark published a joint declaration, explained that "even if we now agree with the legal basis (Article 202 of the treaty), in the future, this Article will not be able to be used for this kind of decision".
