Brussels, 05/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission states it is willing to organise, on 21 March, a preparatory meeting for a donors' conference for Cyprus. Nonetheless, holding this early donors' conference depends on the outcome of negotiations, the Commission states. It could not therefore be organised unless Greek and Turkish Cypriots give their approval, on 10 March, so that the draft peace plan proposed by the UN is submitted to two simultaneous referenda on 30 March, as requested by Kofi Annan. The European Union has already several times demonstrated its support for the proposal of the United Nations Secretary General's proposal to organise a donors' conference after the political agreement for reunification of the island has been signed. The Commission was not able, on Wednesday, to give the amount that is expected to be collected at this conference.
