04/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - MEP, Nelly Maes (Greens/EFA, Belgium), has announced in a press statement that she would not take part in a meeting on 5 March at the European Parliament on the theme of "Dialogue between Civilisations, Women's empowerment" because President Khatami's advisor, Kahra Shojaii would be attending and who advocates stoning in Iran. the meeting has been sponsored by the International Charitable Foundation, headed by Baroness Emma Nicholson, the British Liberal member of the European Parliament. Ms Maes declares that the "European Parliament must not host those who advocate medieval punishments such as stoning".
