Brussels, 04/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Executive Committee of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) is to meet on 6 and 7 March in Athens, under the leadership of ETUC General Secretary Emilio Gabaglio. The main aim of the meeting is to take stock of implementation of the Lisbon strategy since it was launched in March 2000 and in light of an economic situation that grows worse each day. Participants in the analysis include European Council President Costas Simitis, former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres (who presided the Lisbon Summit), and the Commissioner for Social Affairs and Employment, Anna Diamantopoulou.
On this occasion, the Executive Committee will finalise its contribution to the Spring Summit on 20 and 21 March, in Brussels, and take position on the threat of war in Iraq.
