Seminar in Athens on transatlantic relations

Paris, 28/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Western European Union Assembly - the Interparliamentary European Security and Defence Assembly chaired by Jan Dirk Blaauw - is organising a seminar on 17 and 18 March in Athens. It will be on "Europe and the new United States national security strategy - fighting terrorism together". (It will also be one of the main themes of its June session in Paris: see EUROPE of 25 February, p.6). Participants will include the Greek Foreign Affairs and Defence Ministers, Georges Papandreou and Yannos Papantoniou; former Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem; the president of the Greek delegation at the Assembly (and former Foreign Minister), Theodoros Pangalos; as well as Pascal Boniface of the "Institut des relations internationales et stratégiques de Paris"; Ivan Eland of the Center for the Study of War, Crises and Liberty of Oakland; Anatol Lieven of the Carnegie Endowment for Peace in Washington; and William Hopkinson of the Royal Institute for International Affairs of London. Other guests include: European Commissioner Chris Patten and OSCE Assembly President Bruce George.
