25/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - The MEP from the Lista Bonino Gianfranco Dell'Alba asked on the European Commission and Council whether they do not consider it an opportune moment to amend the UN Conventions on Drugs from 1961, 1971 and 1988, which foresee the 'criminalisation of a series of behaviours linked to drugs' and in the framework of which several countries have 'foreseen the death penalty for such crimes'. Among these countries are China, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Iran and Kuwait, recalls the MEP, who would favour an initiative from the EU member states, all signatories of the agreements, during the UN meeting on drugs, next April in Vienna.
