Brussels, 20/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - Greek and Lebanese sources confirm that the Secretary General of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, and the Lebanese Foreign Minister, Mahmoud Hammoud (whose country chairs the annual Arab summit) are to take part, on 24 February, at the dinner of EU Foreign Ministers, on the occasion of the General Affairs/External Relations Council.
Furthermore, the representatives of the Quartet on the Middle East (EU, UN, United States and Russia), at the level of officials, hoped in a declaration that the roadmap on the peace process would be formally adopted and presented to the parties as quickly as possible. They call upon all Palestinian groups and individuals to cease all acts of terror against Israel and note that the Palestinian decision to designate a Prime Minister is a "significant step". At the same time, they recall that Israel may facilitate the process of Palestinian reform and, welcoming the recovery of late payments of Palestinian receipts by Israel, they note Israel's obligation (while bearing its security concerns in mind) to improve the humanitarian and socio-economic conditions of the Palestinians, including freedom of movement and respect of human dignity for the civilian population.
