30/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Council decision of 19 December to designate a contact within the police and justice services of each Member State to facilitate cooperation against terrorism took effect after its publication in the Official Journal (OJ L16 of 22 January). The text had been proposed by Spain during its European Union Presidency, one year ago. The European Parliament had given a positive opinion to the proposal, although it insisted on data protection (EUROPE of 27 September).
