Brussels, 30/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday the European Commission and the European Central Bank (ECB) decided to jointly set up 'Euro Cash User group' responsible for consulting and co-operating with representatives from the private sector on issues related to euro cash. The consultative group will consist of representatives from the banking sector, vending industry, as well as representatives of retailers, cash in transit companies and SMEs. The subjects it will tackle are: the need to put into circulation low denomination banknotes (less than EUR 5); harmonising harmonisation for cash transit companies in EU; Changes in payment habits (In particular, it is interesting to analyse developments in electronic means of payment and trends on the future use of cash); the impact study on the single currency on price evolution. The consultative group will meet two or three times a year in Brussels and Frankfurt and will be Chaired in turn by the ECB and Commission.
