Brussels, 22/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to invite Edith Cresson to make observations "in answer to allegations by which she is said to have violated her obligations during her term in office as Commissioner" between 1995 and 1999, the Commission announced on Wednesday, stipulating that this decision had been taken in the light of several internal enquiries and by the Anti-Fraud Office (Olaf). In concrete terms, a spokesperson explains, the Commission will "send Ms. Cresson a document who will then have two months to send in her observations". The Commission regards such a move as appropriate in the concern for clarification and to guarantee the right of defence", this source adds.
