20/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - In an interview published in the Figaro before the 40th anniversary of the Treaty of the Elysée, on 22 January, President Chirac announced that a "symbolic council of French and German ministers … would be held at which occasion a joint declaration will be adopted". "Roadmaps will be given to German and French ministers with obligations to come up with results", the President stipulates, adding "we have decided to introduce, in the two countries a secretariat general on co-operation, with a French deputy in Berlin and a German deputy in Paris", who would "provide the necessary impetus and ensure better co-ordination of policies".
