CANADA: 23. Million euro for 19 projects with United States and Canada

Brussels, 20/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - In the framework of transatlantic co-operation in education and training, 19 new projects, to be co-funded by the Union, and the United States of Canada have been selected out of 50 proposals, the European Commission announced on Friday. These joint programmes will receive 2.3 million euro from the Community - a little over two-thirds of which for the 13 Euro-American projects and one-third for the 6 Euro-Canadian projects. The projects "combine different elements, like the development of joint curricula, student exchange, e-learning, etc., and covering a broad spread of academic areas," a press release stipulates. Some sixty higher education and vocational training establishments in the EU will take part, such as the AOC Groenhorst College, the Bonaparte Institute, the Ecole Centrale de Lyon, the Universities of Leeds, Padua, Navarre, Artoi, Leon, Leuven, Ghent, Amsterdam, etc.. Viviane Redding, Commissioner responsible for education and culture explained that following the success of programmes already implemented since 1996 in the context of bilateral co-operation, the choice had mainly gone to "innovative aspects and potential to produce outcomes that can be used in other contexts and settings". "The combined forces of the transatlantic project partners will lead to results that could not be achieved in a strictly European setting", she was pleased to announce.
