Brussels, 15/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - Robert C. Bonner US Customs Service Commissioner is sad to be "disappointed" by the European Commission's decision to begin infringement proceedings against Member States taking part in the Container Security Initiative. On Tuesday, the Commissioner declared to a Washington press conference that this was the only initiative that had been developed to better protect trade - at main or medium level - namely by way of container transport. He also added that the issue was essentially an internal matter between the EU and Member States but that it would have no impact at all on the Container Security Initiative, "both the implementation of CSI in all ports of the world, or countries of the world that have signed CSI, including the European nations that have signed CSI…CSI is already operational in Rotterdam and Le Havre".
