30/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - On 23 December, the Danish Presidency released the following statement on behalf of the EU: "The EU continues to follow with increasing attention and concern the current events in the internal situation in Venezuela. The EU welcomes the adoption by the Permanent Council of OAS Resolution 833 in support of the democratic institutional structures in Venezuela and the facilitation efforts of the OAS Secretary General. In this connection, the EU expresses its strong support for the efforts of the OAS Secretary General to build conditions for dialogue and national reconciliation. The EU urges the institutions and people of Venezuela to seek a peaceful and constitutional solution to the crisis in order to allow the country to re-establish a stable situation that can lead to economic progress and social development, in full respect for democratic principles and the rule of law."
