11/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Federal Council of the International European Movement chaired by José Maria Gil-Robles adopted during its meeting of 30 November in Copenhagen, at the initiative of Ernst Piehl (delegate of the European Movement, Germany), a resolution on the enlargement process. He mainly hoped for a European action plan including participation of the main players of the civil society, including the European Movement, with a view to preparing European elections in 2004 in which new Member States would participate for the very first time. The resolution also calls for the EU to strengthen its support to Turkey's pre-accession preparations, "mainly through support of civil society organisations", and that, at the Copenhagen Summit, "a timetable be announced for the beginning of negotiations with Turkey".
