Brussels, 11/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - Last week, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the legislative and working programmes of the Commission for 2003, on which there had been discussion with President Prodi in November, in Strasbourg (see EUROPE of 21 November, p.8). We shall be publishing this resolution in full in our series EUROPE/Documents, together with a supplement on enlargement. The Parliament, moreover, is calling for an interinstitutional agreement with the Council and Commission on the institutional consequences of enlargement.
The EP welcomes the improvements made by the Commission in the programming and presentation of its programme, but regrets that it describes its working programme as no more than a contribution to the Council's annual operational programme. Furthermore, it calls on the Commission to present a new proposal on the statute of the European political parties as soon as the Treaty of Nice enters into force, while the programme on the table is "totally silent" on this subject.
