10/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - EP Radical members Maurizio Turco and Marco Cappato criticised Romano Prodi for wanting to bring God into the European Constitution, on one hand, while, on the other, "we finance those who kill off the believers". The two MEPs from the Lista Bonino recall that the European Commission President called upon a group of intellectuals (with the help of Professor Michalski, "who is at home at the Vatican") to reflect upon the spiritual and religious dimension of Europe. They say that, according to the COMECE bishops, he had said he was "open" to a reference to God in the future European Constitution. They warn: "In the meantime, several regimes that take prisoners, torture and kill those who show their religious beliefs continue to be financed by the Commission".
