Javier Solana welcomes agreement between Serbia and Montenegro on Constitutional Charter

Brussels, 29/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - Javier Solana, EU High Representative for CFSP, made the following declaration following the agreement between Serbs and Montenegrins on the Constitutional Charter which, according to the Belgrade Agreement of 14 March, is to lead to the creation of a State of Serbia and Montenegro:

""Today, an overall agreement was reached between President Kostunica, Prime Minister-elect Djukanovic and Prime Minister Djindjic on the new Constitutional Charter for Serbia and Montenegro. I am very pleased with the consensus reached after long - and sometimes difficult - talks, and I want to thank the leaders for the constructive approach shown in overcoming the final hurdles in these complex constitutional negotiations. The President of the Constitutional Commission and President of the Federal Parliament, Dragomir Micunovic, is ready to convene the Constitutional Commission on Tuesday in order to formalise the agreement. This agreement will pave the way for the Stabilisation and Association Process, which will bring Serbia and Montenegro closer to the European Union."
