Brussels, 26/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved a Country Strategy Paper and National Indicative Programme for Seychelles, outlining its cooperation with the country for the next five years (2002-2007). The budget allocated for the programme totals EUR 4.7 million and comes from the 9th European Development Fund. It will be shared out as follows: EUR 3.9 million for long-term development activities and environmental protection (a waste management project will take up 85% of all funds); EUR 600,000 for State capacity building (training of civil servants, development of human resources, education and youth) and non-state players (strengthening of NGOs). EUR 800,000 will be placed in reserve to cover unforeseen needs such as emergency assistance, debt relief, and instability in export earnings.
