Rapid intervention mechanisms following lorry drivers' road blocks in France

Brussels, 25/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - Due to the conflict in the road haulage sector, the European Commission decided on Friday to set up a Community rapid intervention mechanism for guaranteeing free movement in the EU. This mechanism compels the Member State concerned (in this case France) to take necessary and proportionate measures for ensuring that goods can be transported freely.
