Brussels, 14/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - The 11th European Sports Forum, held on 7 and 8 November in Copenhagen, allowed representatives of EU15 governments, candidate countries and sports organisations to take stock of ways to intensify dialogue between sport and politics in Europe. Participants focused on: sport being taken into account in Community policies, voluntary work in sport, and the European Year of Education through Sport 2004. Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Sport; Brian Mikkelsen, Danish Minister for Culture and Sport; Juan Antonio Gomez-Angulo, Spanish Secretary of State for Sport; and Mario Pescante, President of the European Olympic Committees, opened work. Conclusions of the Forum will be forwarded to the EU15 Sports Ministers, who are meeting on 21 and 22 November in Aarhus. On the eve of the Forum, Ms Reding stressed that "in the dialogue between the authorities and sport, both sides must step up their efforts, if we wish to make real progress in protecting and promoting a model for European sport which is based on solidarity between types and levels of sport, a balance between the commercial and social aspects of sport and an uncompromising stance on doping".
