12/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Friday, the Danish Presidency adopted a resolution on behalf of the EU welcoming the unanimous adoption of Security Council Resolution 1441 on Iraq. In particular, the declaration stresses that the Security council thus "asserted its role and responsibility in maintaining international peace and security", and tat the resolution was "an important step towards the elimination of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction". The declaration concludes: "This is Iraq's last opportunity to fulfil its disarmament obligations (…) The EU expresses its full confidence in and support for Dr. Hans Blix of Unmovic and Dr. Baradei of IAEA in the performance of their duties. The EU also expresses its support for the Security Council in its continued handling of the matter". The High representative for CFSP, Javier Solana spoke along the same lines, noting in particular that the EU's position was "fully reflected in the text".
