12/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - A delegation from the Liberal group at the European Parliament, led by its President, Graham Watson, will be in Athens from 12-13 November to provide a clarification of its views on the future Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU. Mr Watson is also eager to ask the Greek Prime Minister, Costas Simitis, to pursue an "ambitious agenda of economic reform" at the spring summit (21 March 2003 in Brussels). The British Liberal Democrat has stated that he hopes that they will, "see further moves to energy liberalisation next year". With regard to the question of Cyprus, Mr Watson declared that if it proves difficult to obtain an agreement in time for the European Council of Copenhagen (particularly because of Mr Denktash's ill health), then an historic breakthrough could be obtained during the Greek Presidency, "if the Greek and Turkish governments can use their good offices to bring the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities together".
