04/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - At the conclusion of Valéry Giscard d'Estaing's visit to Italy last week, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Deputy Prime Minister Giancarlo Fini confirmed that Italy's "compass" at the European Convention would be balance among the European institutions. According to the Italian agency ANSA, Mr Giscard d'Estaing spoke on this occasion of a sort of "guerrilla" and a "struggle for power" taking shape between the institutions. Mr Giscard d'Estaing also delivered a speech to the Senate, during which he stressed the need for a a high level of ambition at the Convention, and he voiced regret that European officials seem to be giving less priority to Europe for the moment.
