18/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - The President of the PES Group in the European Parliament, Enrique Baron, said, "the collapse of the coalition government led by Christian Democrat Jan Peter Balkenende demonstrates the futility of cooperating with movements such as the List Pim Fortuyn." The Spanish Socialist continued: "Just as in Austria recently, the experience of conservative parties forming alliances with extreme movements has serious consequences for political stability." The Vice-President of the Socialist group, Max van den Berg (who is Dutch), said: "The Pim Fortuyn Party was in reality more an expression of frustration and hostility than a political movement with a thought-out programme", adding: "Now all parties… must show the electorate that they have clearly recognised their frustration and that we will build positively on this".
