Brussels, 07/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - Ten companies from the European Union and candidate countries received the European Business Award for the Environment from Environment Commissioner Margot Wallström on Thursday in Budapest. The companies obtained the prize for their efforts to integrate sustainable development in their activities in four different areas management, processes, products and international cooperation.
The prize-winners by category were UK company B&Q, Spanish company Coato and ST- Microelectronic Ltd of Malta in the management category; British Petroleum (BP) of the UK, Integral Umwelt und Anlagentechnik of Austria, Steinecker Maschinenfabrik GmbH and Bofferding Brasserie Nationale S.A. of Germany and Luxembourg in the process category; Achmea Schadeservice BV of the Netherlands, Gea-sol D.O.O of Slovenia and TTS A/S of Denmark in the product category and the international cooperation award went to Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research/WKI of Germany.
