26/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - During the "European Day of Languages" on 26 September for which the theme was "life-long learning", the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Walter Schwimmer, stressed the importance of learning different languages and communicating in them, "which help to promote cultural diversity and mutual understanding on our continent". The Council of Europe is also organising a conference on, "Languages, diversity, citizenship" on 13-15 November in Strasbourg, which will examine the way in which language education policies help support multi-lingualism in Europe.
