Spain challenges European Commission's decision on illegal aid received by porcelain manufacturer Grupo de Empresas Alvarez (GEA)

Luxembourg, 17/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - Spain has appealed to the European Court of Justice for cancellation of a Commission decision dated 14 May 2002 (see EUROPE of 23 May) concerning the porcelain manufacturer Grupo de Empresas Alvarez (GEA). The Commission considers GEA's repeated non-payment of taxes and social contributions amounted to aid that is not compatible with the common market. The Spanish government challenges this analysis.
