Solbes trusts Commission will have more power to ensure compliance with budgetary discipline

Brussels, 16/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission hopes to be given more power to ensure that budgetary discipline is complied with and to be able to forward its recommendations to Member States directly, Pedro Solbes said last Friday. He was speaking before the working group of the European Convention on the coordination of economic policies, chaired by Klaus Hänsch. Mr Solbes confirmed he was in favour of a Council formation comprised of the Ministers of Economy and Finance...
