Improving co-ordination in cancer research

Brussels, 12/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - On 19 September the European Commission and Parliament will be organising in the rooms of the EP in Brussels, a conference entitled, "Towards Greater Coherency in European Cancer Research". Commissioner Philippe Busquin will be participating in this conference, as well as Dutch Christian Democrat Wim Van Velzen (Director of the International Agency for research on Cancer". The conference will bring together representatives from industry and public and private organisations. Irish Liberal and President of the EP, Pat Cox will open the conference. The conference will be examining how to reduce the duplication of jobs, and the distribution of research in order to improve results. EUR 400 million has been targeted for oncology research within the 6th Framework Research Programme.
