Brussels, 12/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - Socialist and Social Democrat Member of the Presidium at the European Convention are expected to finalise a political document on Thursday, which outlines the main guidelines on the future institutional architecture of the UN. The document is expected to be ratified by the Party of European Socialists on 3 October. The Socialist and Social Democrat family has been working on the basis of a document by Giuliano Amato, Vice President of the Convention and elaborated after the informal meeting in Birmingham at which both PES and other Members of the Convention participated, for which the President of the Constitutional Committee of the European Parliament is Giuliano Amato. EUROPE believes that the discussion at Birmingham had revealed differences, notably on the inclusion of the Charter of Fundamental Rights in the Treaty (the opposition, came from particularly the British Labour Party but also other including the Swedish Socials Democrats) and the role of national parliaments.
