Paris, 12/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - Commemorating 11 September should provide "an occasion to look at the European response to the threat international terrorism poses", said the President of the Western European Assembly, Klaus Bühler, going on: "The results are not entirely satisfactory". He notes in a press release that the EU "has so far focussed its anti-terrorist activities on long-term prevention measures and dialogue", but had "not yet come up with a comprehensive policy concept that would also involve military means and the use of military force". The German politician stressed "enhanced deployment capabilities", special forces, force protection measures and cooperation among intelligence services to achieve joint analysis and assessment capacity.
On 18 September, the Presidential Committee will approve the Assembly's work programme.
