Valéry Giscard d'Estaing to open academic year

Bruges, 06/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Chairman of the European Convention, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, will be making the opening speech for the College of Europe's fifty-third academic year in Bruges on 2 October. The ceremony will be chaired by former Belgian prime minister Jean-Luc Dehaene, President of the College's board of governors, and will be opened by Robert Picht, acting rector of the College who will speak about the patron of annual year 2002-2003 Bertha von Suttner, Nobel Prize winner in 1905, an Austrian pacifist and author of books like Die Waffen nieder and Martha's Children.
