Brussels, 06/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the Council of the EU adopted (by written procedure) a regulation imposing definitive and countervailing duties on imports of Atlantic salmon from Norway. These measures involve ten Norwegian companies that have not respected their commitments (either on prices or on information about sales that should be given to the Commission). The rate of countervailing duties applicable to the net free-at-Community frontier price before duty, shall be 3.8%. The EU had already imposed duties on these same products in September 1997 (the duties were revised in 1999), but they did not achieve the desired effects. This explains why the Commission decided last February to re-examine the measures.
