Brussels, 23/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - On the eve of the EU Foreign Affairs Ministers' meeting with Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Island on the Northern Dimension, which will be held on 27-29 August in Ilulissat in Greenland (see EUROPE 23 August p 4), the President of the Greenland Home Rule Government, Jonathan Motzfeld, has expressed his determination to intensify co-operation between the EU and Nordic countries, and particularly to enlarge the areas for this co-operation, which is still essentially limited to fishing. "We would very much like to engage in other areas of co-operation with the EU besides fishing. We believe that there are a number of other areas where both parties could mutually benefit from partnership, for example, in regard to minerals and research", declared Mr Motzfeldt, welcoming the choice of Greenland for the meeting. He has also called for the setting up of an "Arctic Office" within the European Commission. Foreign Affairs Ministers for the Nordic and Baltic countries will meet on Monday in Tallinn (Estonia) for a meeting within the framework of co-operation between the eight Baltic and Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia), which will focus on EU enlargement and NATO, as well as regional co-operation
