23/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - In its "Statistics in Focus" series on developments for labour input indicators for the first quarter of 2002 in industry, trade and services, Eurostat points out that: (1) employment in industry as a whole (excluding construction) declined by 0.9% in first quarter 2002 compared to the previous quarter, in the EU and in the euro area; (2) the number of hours worked in industry declined by 1.0% in first quarter 2002 (also compared to the previous quarter) and by 1.2% in the euro area; (3) salaries and wages rose at a moderate 0.1% in the EU and 0.2% in the euro area in first quarter 2002.
