Brussels, 23/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - At the request of the two countries concerned, the European Commission has acknowledged the protection of geographical indications and designations of origin (PDO) protecting the "Piment d'Espelette or Piment de l'Espellete-Espeletako Biperra", as well as fresh beef meats from Portugal, "Carne de Charneca" and "Carna Cachena da Peneda". It also accepted the "Register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications" (PGI) for "Oberfälzerr Karpfen" for carp from the German Land of Palatinate. These designations have been registered in the PDO and PGI in a Council Regulation of 21 August, which was published in the Official Journal L 225 on 22 August 2002.
