EP/Council conciliation on several cases

Brussels, 06/08/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Council has decided to open Parliament/Council conciliation procedures on several cases for which it has so far refused to accept the amendments voted for by the Parliament during the second reading. They are as follows:

The draft proposal to establish common safety rules in civil aviation (proposal presented after the 11 September attacks and on which the Parliament gave its decision in May: see EUROPE 16 May p 10);

The draft directives on electric and electronic waste and limiting the use of certain dangerous substances in this kind of equipment, two important documents for the Community's strategy on waste prevention management (see EUROPE 11 April pp 9-10);

The draft directive on the public's access to information about the environment and which will replace directive 90/313/EEC (this proposal aims to establish the first pillar of the Aahrus Convention of 1998 into Community law. The Parliament introduced all its first reading amendments in the second reading: see EUROPE 4 June p 16);

The draft regulation on health rules on animal bi-products for human consumption as part of food farm-to-table safety rules (see EUROPE 24 April p 15);

The draft amendment to directive 76/769/ECC on restricting the market availability, preparation and use of certain substances with regard to Pentabromodiphenylether.
