Brussels, 09/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday the European Commission will give its approval for the merger of Swedish telecommunications operator, Telia and Finland's Sonera company. The two companies made a number of commitment in order to obtain the green light: Telia proposed to resolve competition concerns arising in Sweden and Finland by selling its activities in the cable television sector and its stake in the Finnish mobile telephone market. According to well-placed sources, the Commission would also have asked the partners to operate separate accounting systems for their fixed line and mobile phone activities. The Commission failed to comment on this matter.
