Brussels, 09/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - Belgium's food safety agency said on Tuesday it had discovered traces of a banned growth hormone (MPA) soft drinks from two Belgian soft drink producers. Both companies are supplied by the Belgian company Bioland, suspected of violating hormone legislation. The Commission was immediately informed and EU food safety experts were informed about the case at a meeting the same day, but no decision is expected in the near future. The Belgian company Bioland is also involved in the scandal of supplying MPA-contaminated feed to Dutch pig farms. It supplied contaminated syrup to the two soft drinks manufacturers.
