Strasbourg, 18/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - German Social-Democrat, Jannis Sakellariou strongly attacked the MEPs of the CSU, Markus Ferber, and CDU, Armin Laschet, who recently called on the EU to freeze aid to the Palestinian Authority as it is, they claim, using it to finance acts of terrorism. "Such serious accusations have so far only been levelled by the Israeli Government. Ferber and Laschet have so far provided no proof of what they claim", said Sakellariou, while acknowledging that Parliament was obviously waiting for explanations on the part of the European Commission, and that the presence of Commissioner Chris Patten before the Foreign Affairs and Budget Committees on 19 June, would be the occasion to do so. Instead of fuelling this "war of propaganda, we should do all we can to re-build the Palestinian infrastructures destroyed by the Israeli army, which would contribute to an in-depth reform of the Palestinian Authority", says Sakellariou.
