Strasbourg, 17/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - By adopting the Bastiaan Belder Report (the Netherlands, EDD), on 13 June, the European Parliament provided its frank and massive support for the guidelines defined by the Commission regarding accessibility to Web-sites and their content (see EUROPE of 26 September 2001). You may recall that these guidelines mainly provide for the lifting of obstacles to access to Web-sites and to ensure that future Web technologies and information systems will not generate further and additional difficulties for the disabled and the elderly. The Commission proposes devising more accessible public-sector Web-sites in Member states and European institutions, and provides for implementing plans and mechanisms within the EU, and monitoring progress made by Member states.
