Strasbourg, 10/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, Parliament rejected the proposal of the Italian Radical Marco Cappato to postpone all votes of the July session, last recourse, according to him, faced with the danger posed by the presence of the germ of the legionnaire's disease in the EP premises in Strasbourg (see EUROPE of 7 June, p.12 regarding the request by several MEPs to move the session to Brussels). It is "scandalous" that Parliament cannot even decide where it should meet, even given such a risk, he said. But his request was rejected, by 101 in favour, 168 against and 14 abstentions. British Liberal Democrat Diana Wallis said that she had been contaminated last year, probably in Strasbourg, but President Cox announced that he had received all the necessary assurances from the Mayor of Strasbourg, the Hygiene and Health service of the city of Strasbourg and the authorities of the Lower Rhine.
