10/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - The OVP Mayor of Innsbruck, Herwig van Staa was elected, in Strasbourg on Tuesday last, as Chairman of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe, for two years. He succeeds Spain's Llibert Cuatrecasas. You may recall that Walter Schwimmer, Secretary General of the pan-European organisation, and Peter Schieder, the chair of the Parliamentary Assembly, are also Austrian and also belong to the EPP.
