European research confirms feasibility of using liquid hydrogen to fuel planes

Brussels, 30/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - The CRYOPLANE research project shows that use of liquid hydrogen to replace kerosene for fuelling planes is technically feasible and would greatly reduce the environmental impact of aviation without affecting safety. The 26 month project funded by the Commission is led by Airbus and brings together 35 partners from industry, research centres and academic institutions across 11 EU countries including the Commission's Joint Research Centre.
