28/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Fifth Conference on European cultural heritage organised by the DG Research at the Commission, which was held in Krakow from 16 to 18 May, highlighted the essential role that high level research and technological development can play. The Commission, which has, since 1986, financed an international research programme for protecting the cultural heritage against damage caused by pollution, presented three projects concerning the conservation of Baroque stucco marble in churches (ENVIART), protection from damage caused by light on photographs and paper (LIDO) and the first centre of excellence establishing a pan-European network for questions of cultural heritage (ARCCHIP).
