Brussels, 27/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - Described as a co-operation and development model and respecting its Rio commitment to spend 0.7% of its GDP on aid to poor countries, Denmark has refused to host the next plenary session of the Joint ACP-EU Parliamentary Assembly. Folketing President Ivar Hansen has informed the two Co-Presidents, Glenys Kinnock (British Labour MEP) and the President of Benin's National Assembly, Adrian Houngbedji, that Denmark refuses to meet their request to organise the autumn session in Copenhagen on 11/14 or 25/28 November. In their letter, the Co-Presidents noted that the Parliamentary Assembly wanted to get back in touch with the local situation in EU Member States (the way Europeans are able to do each year in a different ACP country). Since Denmark has refused, the session will be organised in Brussels on an as yet unconfirmed date.
