21/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - France will naturally respect its commitments under the Stability and Growth Pact and it would be a totally unfounded argument to imagine the contrary, President Chirac said in Madrid last Friday. "France plans to return to a balance in its medium-term public finances", he said, on the fringe of the EU/Latin American Summit. Nonetheless, he added, "the growth and competitiveness policy also means reducing taxes and charges that today paralyse our production system" and "France is among the European countries where taxes and charges are the highest".
